Lan’s Treatment Progress                                  马岚治疗进展

(8/8/2006)

The result from last week’s bone marrow biopsy indicated that Leukemia cells didn’t grow back in her body. This means that the Gleevec is working for the maintenance and she does not need to worry about having another term of chemotherapy right now. The focus will be looking for the matching donor for the transplant.

The second cycles of chemotherapy was done for four weeks. Right now she is only on one oral chemotherapy drug: Gleevec. Although there are still some bad side effects, such as the severe leg pain and nausea, in general the side effects are less and not as bad as previous time during the chemotherapy treatment. Overall, she is in a better condition physically.

In order to make sure that leukemia cells don’t grow back in her body, her doctor ordered a bone marrow biopsy this week.

Wish her good luck.

According to her doctor, the best choice is still Allogeneic stem cell transplant (using other persons stem cell instead of stem cells collected from her own body. click this link for useful information about the stem cell transplantation).
